HOUSTON, March 29, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Denise Shanklin, Founder and President of Money Week Houston announces the fourth-annual Houston Money Week education event will be held April 2-9, 2011 during National Financial Literacy Month, to educate consumers on topics like personal and children's financial literacy, investment strategies, and more. During this week-long event, FREE city-wide classes, seminars and activities will be carried out by more than 50 local community groups, financial institutions, not-for-profit organizations, businesses, schools, libraries, local and national government agencies, and media personalities.
Money Week Houston kicks off this year's campaign with the All-Star Financial Event at the Toyota Center on April 1, 2011, sponsored by Woodforest National Bank. Other Money Week Houston events include:
Money Week Houston and its official sponsor, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation, also announced today Greater Houston's newest All-Star Money Smart Kids, Taylor Nichole Turner, a 12th grader at Hightower High School in Missouri City and Howard T. Grant, a 7th grader at North Shore Middle School in Houston. Turner and Grant each won $2500 scholarships based on their essays about budgeting and saving.
A calendar of all events is now available on the Money Week Houston's site at www.moneyweekhouston.org along with FREE personal financial management resources. Money Week Houston programs began four years ago and has grown exponentially, providing hundreds of educational offerings to help teach those in Houston and outlying areas how to better manage their finances and navigate these financial times.

- Homeward PATH: Available in English and in Spanish, this program provides credit and budget education, information on how to combat predatory lending practices, information on community down payment assistance programs, educational resources, and affordable housing opportunities.
